Temporary Roof Scaffolding in South Wales

Scaffold temporary roofs and weather protection that keep re-roofs, extensions and loft conversions dry, across Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend and Cardiff.

Temporary Roofs & Weather Protection

Keep Your Project Dry Whatever the Welsh Weather Does

South Wales gets more than its share of rain, and an open roof is the one place you can’t afford a downpour. A scaffold temporary roof covers the whole working area so roofers and builders can strip, repair and rebuild while the house below stays dry.

LMT Scaffolding supplies temporary roof scaffolding and sheeting for homes and commercial buildings across South Wales. We look at the roof, the span and how exposed the site is, then recommend a temporary roof or sheeting system that suits the job and the season.

When You Need One

When Is a Temporary Roof Worth It?

A temporary roof isn’t needed on every job, and we’ll be honest about when it is. It’s usually worth considering for:

Full re-roofs and roof replacements

When the old roof is stripped back to the rafters, a temporary roof stops rain getting into ceilings, insulation and electrics while the new roof goes on.

Loft conversions and dormers

Loft conversions can leave a roof open for weeks. A temporary roof keeps the work area dry and lets the trades keep working.

Storm, fire and heritage repairs

After storm or fire damage, or on older buildings and churches, a temporary roof protects the structure while repairs are planned and carried out.

Winter work

If your project runs between autumn and spring, a temporary roof can save days of work lost to bad weather.

Safety & Planning

How We Plan a Temporary Roof

A temporary roof catches the wind like a sail, so it has to be planned properly. Before we quote we look at:

  • The span – the width the roof has to cover and the shape of the building.
  • Wind exposure – coastal and hilltop sites around Swansea, Gower and the valleys need extra consideration.
  • Ties and loading – how the scaffold is tied to the building and the loads it will carry.
  • Drainage – where rainwater runs off, so it doesn’t end up in a neighbour’s garden.
  • Programme – how long it needs to stay up and whether it has to move as work progresses.

Where a temporary roof falls outside standard TG20:21 configurations, we’ll tell you up front that a bespoke design is needed. Every temporary roof is inspected at least every seven days and after high winds.

FAQs

Temporary Roof FAQs

Common questions about scaffold temporary roofs and weather protection.

A temporary roof is a covered structure built on top of a scaffold to shelter a building while its roof is replaced or repaired. It keeps rain off the work area so the trades can keep working and the property below stays dry.

Not always. Many re-roofs are done in sections with careful planning and sheeting. A temporary roof is worth it for larger roofs, loft conversions, long programmes, winter work and buildings where water damage would be costly. We’ll give you honest advice at the site visit.

The cost depends on the span and length of the roof, the height of the building, wind exposure and how long it needs to stay up. We price every temporary roof individually after a free site survey and give you a clear written quote.

As long as your project needs it. The hire period is agreed in your quote, and if the work overruns, the scaffold and temporary roof can stay up on an agreed weekly rate.

Temporary roofs are planned and tied in for the exposure of the site, and we inspect them at least every seven days and after high winds or storms. If anything has moved or been damaged, it is made safe before work continues.
