Edge Protection
Falls from height remain one of the biggest causes of serious injury in construction, and many happen at an unprotected roof edge. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, falls must be prevented wherever possible, and edge protection that stops people and materials going over the edge is the first line of defence.
LMT Scaffolding installs scaffold edge protection for roofers, builders and property owners across South Wales. We fit guardrails, mid-rails and toe boards at eaves, gable ends and flat-roof perimeters so your team can work safely and your site stays compliant.
Edge Protection Systems
On re-roofs and roof repairs we build a scaffold at the eaves with a boarded platform, double guardrail and toe board, with brick guards where needed, so roofers have somewhere safe to work and nothing slides off the roof.
For flat-roof replacements on extensions, garages and commercial buildings, we fit scaffold edge protection around the perimeter so the whole roof becomes a safe working area.
On new builds we fit edge protection to each working lift as the scaffold goes up, and at roof level for the carpenters and roofers fitting trusses and coverings.
Gable ends and openings next to the work area can be guarded so there are no gaps in the protection.

FAQs
Answers to common questions about roof edge protection.
Edge protection is required whenever someone could fall from an open edge while working at height, such as at the eaves of a roof, the perimeter of a flat roof or the working platform of a scaffold. The Work at Height Regulations 2005 require falls to be prevented wherever possible, and edge protection is one of the main ways of doing that.
For construction work, the main guardrail must be at least 950mm above the edge, with an intermediate guardrail and toe board so that no gap is more than 470mm. Every LMT edge protection system is installed to these requirements.
It depends on the job. For most pitched re-roofs, a scaffold at the eaves with guardrails and toe boards is the safest option because it provides both a working platform and edge protection. For some flat roofs, perimeter guardrails may be enough. We’ll recommend the right option at the site visit.
Yes. We fit scaffold edge protection around flat roofs on extensions, garages and commercial buildings so the whole roof can be worked on safely.
Most domestic edge protection is installed within a day once booked, and we can often fit in urgent jobs quickly. Larger commercial systems are planned around your programme.
